The 56th annual
English Recitation Contest was held on June 18th in the Vories Memorial Chapel. Class heats held the
previous week had yielded 27 talented finalists. Fo
llowing last year's return to tradition, the students presented stories
about the founder of our school, William Merrell Vories. This year, stories were also added about Makiko Hitotsuyanagi. It was a wonderful opportunity for the students to learn more about both our founders and the history of Omihachiman...
All the students performed with energy and enthusiasm. Their hard work in the weeks leading up to the contest was clear for all to see. The first year students also took part, singing a cheerful American melody, ‘Take me Home, Country Road.’ Selected groups of first year students also performed in short dramatic scenes written by last year's graduates.
The morning was enjoyable for both the student body and the many parents
present.
