ENGLISH RECITATION CONTEST 2009:英語暗唱大会2009
The 55th annual English
Recitation Contest was held on June 19th in the Vories Memorial
Chapel. Class heats held the previous
week had yielded 24 talented finalists.
In a return to tradition, the students presented stories about the
founder of our school, William Merrell Vories.
It was a wonderful opportunity for them to learn more about him. All the students did an excellent job, and
performed with energy and enthusiasm.
Their hard work in the weeks leading up to the contest was clear for all
to see. The first year students also took part,
singing a carefully chosen hymn by H.A. Walter and J.Y. Peek. Mr. Walter had much in common with our
founder, and the lyrics of ‘I will be True’ spoke to the spirit of their
youthful energy. Selected groups of
first year students also had a chance to perform in short dramatic scenes. Many of their performances were truly
comical. The morning was an enjoyable one for both the student body and the
many parents present.
