The 54th annual English Recitation Contest was held on June 20th, in the new Vorie
s Memorial Chapel. In this year’s contest, 27 students competed. Their
stories included such classics as Eric Carle's “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,”
Leo Leonni's “Swimmy,” and the Bible favorite “The Good Samaritan.”All
of the students did an excellent job and performed their stories with a
lot of energy and enthusiasm. Their hard work over the past few weeks was clear for all to see, and made
the afternoon an enjoyable one for all present.Following the new tradition
started last year, each of the first grade classes performed one of their
favorite worship songs: Rock My Soul, Swing Low, Jacob’s Ladder and We
Shall Overcome. These were also familiar to many in the audience and helped
to top off a great afternoon. Many of the first years also had their first
chance to perform on the big stage and, though nervous, performed well.
